Sashank nets a brace

HYDERABAD: Shastri Soccer Club defeated Hyderabad Sporting 2-0 in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at the Gymkhana grounds, here on Sunday.

Sashank struck a brace for the winner in the 44th and 66th minutes.

In another match, Bolarum Sporting Club put it across State Bank of India 1-0 with Shobhan Babu netting the match-winner in the 47th minute of the second session.

Sowmya moves up

Sowmya defeated Chitra 8-3 in the girls’ under-10 quarterfinals of the Sun-Jay Tennis Academy tennis tournament at the ASCI Courts here.

Hat-trick by Vijay

Striker Vijay Kumar scored a hat-trick to fashion Hyderabad’s entry into the semifinals of the 54th School Games Federation AP inter-district football (under-19) championship with a 3-0 win over Vizianagaram here.

Athletics camps

Eight athletes from Andhra Pradesh — Abdul Najeeb Qureshi, K. Krishna Mohan, P. Shankar, S. Geetha, H.M. Jyothi, G. Harathi, K. Mrudula and K. Sowjanya — have been selected by the Athletics Federation of India to attend the national coaching camps as part of the preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, according to Prof K. Ranga Rao, Secretary, AP Amateur Athletics Association.

Nagapuri Ramesh of SAI has also been drafted as one of the coaches for the above camps which will be conducted at Patiala, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad. The exact schedule will be intimated very soon.
