VIJAYAWADA: Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy entered the final in the men’s section of the AP senior inter-district basketball championship defeating Anantapur and Krishna respectively at Anantapur on Sunday. Hyderabad outplayed Anantapur 50-24, while Ranga Reddy scored a 61-60 win over Krishna. In the women’s section, Hyderabad defeated Chittoor 55-21, while Kurnool outwitted Guntur 43-17 to make it to the final. Both the finals fail to take place owing to heavy downpour in the evening. The results: Semifinals: Men: Hyderabad 50 (Lijju 12) bt Anantapur 24 (Shiva 8); RR 61 (Gopal 19, Rohit 15) bt Krishna 60 (Halee 18, Nagaraj 15). Women: Hyderabad 55 (Kaur 15, Geetha 12) bt Chittoor 21 (Bhavana 10, Latha 5); Kurnool 43 (Sandhya 15, Srilatha 10) bt Guntur 17 (Begum 8, Durga 5). VRSEC in finalVijayawada’s V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College (VRSEC) entered the final of the Acharya Nagarjuna University inter-zonal cricket tournament defeating Guntur’s JKC College by 15 runs at the Bapatla Engineering College grounds on Sunday. VRSEC will meet Koneru Lakshmaiah College of Engineering in the final at VRS & YRN College grounds at Chirala on November 25. The scores: VRSEC 170 for nine in 40 overs bt JKC College 155 in 31 overs (Anil 50, Jyothi Sai Krishna four for 27). MHU scoresMadurai Kamaraj University defeated Andhra University 43-42 to enter the fourth round of the South Zone inter-University kabaddi (men) tournament at the Acharya Nagarjuna University grounds at Guntur on Sunday. Important results: Third round: Bharathiar bt Kerala 42-8; TN Physical Education and Sports bt Kannur 25-11; ANU bt Gandhigram 84-16; Bangalore bt Puducherry 30-13; Mangalore bt Kakatiya 33-21; Manonmaniam Sundaranar bt Kuvempu 64-20; Madurai Kamaraj bt Andhra 43-42; Alagappa bt Thiruvalluvar 46-16. 5km runGuntur’s KVS and KP Sports Foundation will organise a State-level 5km run for men and women at the B.R. Stadium on December 14. Apart from Rs. 46,000 as cash awards to the winners, the organisers will be donating Rs. 20,000 to economically backward athletes.
