Two persons sentenced to rigorous imprisonment

CHENNAI: Two persons were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment by a Thanjavur court for being in possession of counterfeit currency notes.
According to the prosecution, the Counterfeit Currency Wing of the Crime Branch CID arrested P. Jothivel alias Jayavel (38) of Jayankondam near the Thanjavur bus stand on August 21, 2005.
Based on his information, police arrested L. Vali (53) of Cuddalore. Rs. 51,000 counterfeit notes of Rs. 500 denomination were seized from the two.
The Principal Assistant Sessions Court judge sentenced the accused to three years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000 each.
