Stocks of boiled, raw rice adequate: Velu

CHENNAI: Food minister E.V. Velu on Saturday said the ration card holders could either buy boiled rice or raw rice, depending on their need, throughout the month.
In a press release, the minister stated that the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation godowns had adequate stocks of both varieties. Officials had been directed to distribute both varieties to customers.
As far as Chennai was concerned, the North region had stocked 4,234 tonnes boiled rice and 5,389 tonnes raw rice.
South Chennai had a stock position of 3,819 tonnes boiled rice and 4,312 tonnes raw rice.
The Minister said every month, depending on the requirement, 60 per cent of the rice stock was sent (advance movement) between 26th of the month and 5th of the next month. The rest was sent between 6th and 15th of the month.
