The rolls have been displayed for scrutiny by residents A copy of the rolls has been given to all recognised political parties TAMBARAM: Applications for correction in, addition to and deletion from the draft photo electoral rolls of the four Assembly constituencies in the southern suburbs of Chennai will be accepted till December 2. The rolls, released on Monday, have been kept on display for scrutiny by residents and elected representatives at taluk offices, revenue divisional offices and offices of the municipalities, town and village panchayats, besides the designated polling locations, says an official release. A copy of the rolls has been given to all recognised political parties. For the convenience of the public, the different forms will be available at the designated centres (polling stations), where the filled-up forms will be accepted. As on January 1, 2009, those who attain the age of 18 years can apply for inclusion, while the existing voters could apply for changes with different forms. Voters in the newly formed Sholinganallur Assembly constituency can contact officials of the Tambaram taluk office (22382210 and 94450 00502) for omissions and errors. Those in the Alandur constituency can contact the municipal office by calling 22341702. Voters of the newly formed Pallavaram constituency can contact 98849 08002 and those in Tambaram can contact 22266206 and 98849 00303 for further details. Cooperation soughtKancheepuram Collector Santhosh K. Misra appealed to voters in the southern suburbs to cooperate with the district administration in improving the “image coverage” in the photo electoral rolls in all the four constituencies. Another release said a special campaign for corrections would be held on November 23 and 30 at all designated polling locations. On November 23, a special grama sabha would be convened in the village panchayats. Final listOfficials of the Tambaram taluk office said the Election Commission was particular about releasing the final list by January 1, 2009. The draft photo electoral rolls was prepared after several rounds of corrections, door-to-door verifications and scrutiny as part of a programme that began in 2006 to ensure that all voters whose names found a place in the rolls had Electors’ Photo Identity Cards. In Kancheepuram district, the Tambaram and Alandur constituencies had the largest number of voters without the cards. Though the two constituencies were split into four, with the creation of Sholinganallur and Pallavaram, the process of preparing the draft rolls and distributing the cards continued, the officials said.
