Pollution level

The level of total suspended particulate matter (TSPM) at a traffic intersection in Vallalar Nagar during the 24-hour period ending 6 a.m. on Tuesday was 239 microgram/cubic metre. The permissible limit is 200 microgram/cubic metre.

According to data provided by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board as part of its Chennai Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Programme, the respirable suspended particulate matter (RSPM) at the junction during the same period was 156 microgram/cubic metre. The permissible level is 100 microgram/cubic metre. At a residential area in Anna Nagar the level of TSPM was 197 microgram/cubic metre.
