Katich century puts Australia in command

Brisbane: Simon Katich’s unbeaten century made him the first Australian to carry his bat in a Test since Mark Taylor in 1997-98 and his knock took his side to 268 in the second innings against New Zealand on the third day of the first cricket Test at the Gabba, here on Saturday.

New Zealand’s chase was impaired by the loss of six wickets with the score at 143 at close.

New Zealand was reeling at 49 for four at one stage before Ross Taylor and Daniel Flynn put on 84 to steady the innings.

Taylor was unbeaten on 67 after Flynn had departed for 29.
