Satish stars with the ball for The Hindu

HYDERABAD: Left-arm spinner B. Satish (six for 9) helped The Hindu record a 37-run win over Deloitte in the final of the third SBH Corporate Cup cricket tournament, organised by Dravyansh Corporate Cricket & Sports Organisers, at Vijayanand Gardens here on Saturday.

Special prizes were given to S. Kalyan of Deloitte (best all-rounder), A.G. Praveen of Karvy (best bowler) and Monty Singh of Satyam (best batsman).

The Hindu 123 for nine bt Deloitte 86 (B. Satish six for nine).

SBH triumphs

State Bank of Hyderabad defeated City College Old Boys 2-0 in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at Gymkhana Grounds here.

Right-winger Akbar Ali headed in a perfect cross from Md. Ali in the 18th minute and in the 48th minute Md. Siraj completed the tally with a 40-yard kick. The final minutes saw some rough tackling and Md. Ali was shown a red card by referee Vincent Paul.

In another match, Hyderabad Globe and Bharat Dynamics Ltd. were locked in a 1-1 draw. It was BDL which shot into lead in the fourth minute through Shekar. Within 20 minutes, Md. Mahmood scored the equaliser for Globe.

Riyank moves up

N. Riyank Varma defeated K. Aditya 8-2 in the boys’ under-12 pre-quarterfinal of the Sun-Jay Tennis Academy tennis tournament at ASCI here.

The results:

Boys pre-quarterfinals: Under-10: Vishal Reddy bt G. Nikhil 8-1; Amit bt G. Yeshwant 8-1; C. Arjun bt Rithwik 8-2.

Quarterfinalists spotted

At Anantapur, Hyderabad, Anantapur, Krishna and Medak topped their respective pools to make it to the quarterfinals in the men’s section of the AP senior inter-district basketball championship at Sai Baba College grounds, according to information reaching here on Saturday.

West Godavari, East Godavari, Guntur and Ranga Reddy are the other teams to enter the last eight.

Men (pre-quarterfinals): West Godavari bt Kurnool 35-11; East Godavari bt Vizag 77-65; Guntur bt Mahabubnagar 46-33; Ranga Reddy bt Chittoor 33-20.

Close call for Puducherry

Puducherry University defeated Bharathiar University 25-22 in the first round of the South Zone inter-university kabaddi (men) tournament at Acharya Nagarjuna University grounds at Guntur on Saturday.
