Karunanidhi challenges Jayalalithaa to come to court
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has challenged AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa to come to the court and face the cross-examination on the alleged loss of her reputation. She had no cause to file any case against him for his statement against her in connection with the law college incident, Mr. Karunanidhi said.
The reply notice was sent by Additional Advocate-General P. Wilson to the notice sent by Ms. Jayalalithaa. “If she is really a responsible citizen, if she is really a person having respect for law, let her personally come to the court stand and face the test of cross-examination on the alleged loss of reputation and defamation.”
Ms. Jayalalithaa had sought an unconditional apology in writing from the Chief Minister for making the statement during a press interview at Coimbatore on November 16.
The reply, sent to her advocate, A. Navaneethakrishnan, said her reputation was known to the public through the “pending cases” against her. She should be the last person to talk about her respect for judicial proceedings. It was she who was giving much unwarranted publicity to the law college incident when the matter was sub-judice. As far as the alleged mental agony and pain to her was concerned, the reply said, she was “bound to have one hundred reasons for her mental agony and pain.”
