Service on public demand: Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest S. Regupathy collecting bus ticket in the new town bus service inaugurated on Saturday. PUDUKOTTAI: Within a few days on receipt of a complaint from the Pudukottai District Railway Users’ Committee, the State Transport Corporation authorities swung into action, introducing a town bus facility between the railway station and the bus stand in the late night hours. The need for the town bus service arose, consequent to the introduction of the train services between Chennai and Rameswaram by the railways recently. The office-bearers of the Committee, in a petition, referred to the inconvenience experienced by the train passengers in reaching the bus stand, as the trains arrived at Pudukottai station during the wee hours. The absence of autorickshaw services added to their woes. The Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests S. Regupathy, who flagged off the town bus, said the State government was responsive to the grievances of the public. Relief to the needyThe introduction of the town bus service would be of much relief to the needy, he added. The General Manager, TNSTC, Pudukottai Division, Sankaran, said that the town bus service was essentially meant for the convenience of the train passengers. It would leave the bus stand at 10 p.m.; 11.10 p.m. and 3.10 a.m. daily. It would leave the railway station at 10.20 p.m.; 11.30 p.m. and 3.30 a.m. The timings had been fixed to suit the needs of the railway passengers. The bus would be halted at the railway station in case of any delay in the arrival of the train. The president of the Committee, R. Sivakumar and its secretary Ibrahim Babu were among those who spoke.
