ISLAMABAD: Nasir Sultan, the 15-year-old Pakistani boy whose Bollywood dreams landed him in a jail in Faridkot in Punjab, was reunited with his family on Friday after he was released by the Indian government and crossed back into his country through the Wagah border. The Pashtun teenager, who disappeared from his home in Dir in the North-West Frontier Province on August 16 wearing his school uniform and carrying his school bag, was caught crossing the border into India illegally. He was released after the Indian government withdrew the case against him. Nasir’s father Sultan Zareen took charge of his son after he crossed over. Television footage showed the boy in tears as he was reunited with his father. His parents had nearly given up on their missing son, but a phone call from Nasir tohis father on October16, telling him he had been arrested in India, proved providential, and set the ball rolling for his early release. Nasir later told journalists that he had no complaints about the juvenile prison in Faridkot, where he was sent following his arrest. He said he was treated well by the jail staff. But he mentioned the presence of another Pakistani boy in the same jail and expressed the hope that he also would be released soon.
