NCC Day today

GUNTUR: The 60th NCC Day celebrations will be held on the premises of Police Parade Grounds here on Saturday. Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor Y.R. Haragopala Reddy will be the chief guest at the parade and would receive the salute of the NCC cadets.
NCC Group Headquarters, Guntur, Group Commander Y.S. Ganesh said on Friday that the group headquarters, which started in 1965, now has 16,600 cadets, including 3,592 girls, undergoing training in 196 institutions under the supervision of 140 officers. In addition, 80 military personnel drawn from regular armed forces have been employed to impart the training.
He said that in 2008, about 14,500 cadets took part in camp training, including, central camps. Cadets have taken part in camps held at Delhi, Dhenkanal, Kochi, Udaipur etc.
An NCC cadet has bagged the Gold medal in firing and won the Best Cadet during the Inter Group Naval Wing Competitions held at Visakhapatnam and the group was adjudged the overall best group.
As many as eight cadets took part in the mountaineering course held at Manali and eight others took part in Inter District Army wing competitions held at Delhi.
