Two held with deadly weapons

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Two persons, who were allegedly planning to commit a dacoity, were apprehended in Avadi on Friday.

According to police, Chennai Suburban Commissioner of Police S.R. Jangid formed a special team to conduct combing operations in sensitive areas and gather intelligence information on habitual offenders. Following a tip-off, the team raided a house in Devi Nagar, Avadi, on Friday.

Sekhar and his associate I. Shabu (33) were taken into custody. They were in possession of lethal weapons. On interrogation, they confessed to have planned to commit a dacoity . Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central Crime Branch) S. Jayakumar said that Sekhar was formerly Cuddalore district secretary of Tamil Nadu Liberation Army. He was involved in several offences, including a couple of murders, and detained under the Goondas Act recently. Shabu was also involved in an attempt-to-murder case.

The accused were produced in a local court and remanded to judicial custody.
