“Facilitate children to excel in the area of their aptitudes”

Talented: Collector T. Soundiah giving away prizes to winners of Children’s Day painting contest in Tiruchi.

TIRUCHI: Parents should facilitate their children to excel in the area of their aptitudes, the District Collector, T. Soundiah said.

Calling upon parents not to force the younger generation into various extra-curricular activities, and to rather identify their real interest, he said only then can they help their wards to scale greater heights. The Collector was speaking at a function organised by the Government Museum on Thursday to distribute prizes to winners of its annual painting competition for school children in connection with the Children’s Day celebrations.

The Curator (in-charge) of the Museum, S. Govindaraj explained the various educational activities undertaken by the Museum throughout the year. Besides it also imparted epigraphy training to the youths, and organised special lectures for the college students on different topics including sculpture, architecture, conserving monuments etc., All these programmes have evoked good response, he added.

More than 800 students from six schools participated in the painting contest held in four categories. Mr. Soundiah gave away prizes to the winners.

The following is the list of prize winners: Group I (for students of classes I and II): 1. S. Agatharose (Montfort School); 2. Juveni Riya (St. Joseph’s AI HSS); 3. R. Kanishka (St. Little Flower School).

Group II (students of classes III – V): 1. P. R. Kamalam (Montfort School); 2. M. K. Jai Ganesh (Paramahamsa Matriculation School); 3. A. Prasanth (Chinmaya Vidyalaya Matriculation School).

Group III (students of classes VI – VIII): 1. R. Moneka (St. Joseph’s AI HSS); 2. S. Amirthakateswari (Kaveri Matriculation School); 3. K. Supraja (RSK HSS). Group IV (students of classes IX – XII): 1. S. Haripriya (RSK HSS); 2. S. Balamurugan (National College HSS); 3. G. Maneka (St. Joseph’s AI HSS).

Five consolation prizes and 20 motivation prizes were also distributed.
