CHENNAI: J. Saranya of Chennai scored a marathon penultimate round point to win the VIT National Under-13 Chess Championship with a round to spare in Vellore on Friday. Saranya won two pawns in the middlegame and defeated former National U-11 champion Priyanka Kumari of Jharkhand in 82 moves to emerge winner with the 9.5 points from ten rounds. In the boys’ section, FIDE Master G.V. Sai Krishna of Vijayawada has established a one point lead after a win over top seed FIDE Master Sahaj Grover of Delhi.
