HYDERABAD: Out of the 38,000 dwelling units taken up under Phase I of Rajiv Swagruha housing programme, 17,446 are nearing completion at different places in the State and they will be thrown open soon to allottees for occupation. Reviewing the programme here on Friday, Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy asked AP Rajiv Swagruha Corporation Limited to speed up construction and complete the dwelling units within the time schedule . These units must be affordable and cheaper compared to the prices in the open market. Officials told the Chief Minister that finishing touches were being given to the 1,140 single and double bedroom flats constructed at Chandanagar in Hyderabad and slabs were laid for Pocharam and Bandlaguda units. Similarly, foundation work has been completed in respect of the dwelling units taken up at Vetapalem, Nellore and Khammam. Site-clearing work is in full swing at Narasaraopet, Kakinada, Mahabubnagar, Tandur, Nalgonda, Srikalahasthi, Rayachoti, Rajampet and Kamareddy while the sites are being developed at Yendada. Housing Minister Botsa Satyanarayana later said 70,000 dweling units would be taken up under Phase II.
