TIRUPATI: N. Prabhakar Rao of the Department of Physics was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara University. His appointment comes in the wake of the premature demise of Prof. C. Rathnam two months ago. He was in office for nine months.

Unique distinction

Prabhakar Rao, besides being an alumnus of the SVU, has the unique distinction of becoming the Vice-Chancellor of the same university after having served as its Registrar and Rector.

According to a communication received at the University head quarters, he would hold the post for a three year term from the date of taking charge.

According to university sources, he would assume office on Saturday at 11 a.m. at a brief ceremony in the V-C’s official chamber. Meanwhile, the University’s Registrar, Y. Venkatrami Reddy, and other teaching and non-teaching staff hailed the appointment of Prabhakar Rao, a non-controversial person to the coveted post.
