ANANTAPUR: The district police arrested a gang of robbers and two others for helping them dispose of their booty and seized gold and jewellery articles worth Rs. 7 lakh from their possession. Superintendent of Police M.K. Singh told newspersons that the gang was involved in several robberies that had taken place in the district headquarters. Attempt thwartedThe gang was apprehended on Wednesday evening when they were trying to rob a person on way to Gooty by threatening him with daggers. A team of One Town CI K. Rajeswara Reddy and CCS CI A. Srinivasulu and their staff nabbed the gang on the receipt of information about the robbers’ fresh attempt. On questioning, they confessed to committing 13 robberies in Anantapur. The gang membersThe arrested gang members were identified as Suresh (22), Babu (23), Raju (35) and Manohar (20). Two others Venkoba Achari (32) and Maruthi Achari (28) were also arrested by the police based on the robbers’ confession. The recovered valuables included 500 gram gold jewellery and 4 kg silver jewellery and articles.
