Presiding over the co-ordination committee meeting on scan centres in the district here on Friday, the Collector pointed out that those who would reveal the gender identity would be punished as per the law. He asked the officials to visit all the 196 scan centres in the district periodically and verify the documents.

The warning boards that carry the message against sex selection should be predominantly displayed in each scan centre. Unregistered scan machines would attract Rs. 20,000 as fine. Any change in the scan centres should be intimated to the officials concerned and the Collector without delay. The Collector also said that taluk-level monitoring committees would be formed to mount a watch over the scan centres.

Those who participated in the meeting included Dr. Kandammal (Joint Director, Health Services), Salem RDO V. Balagurumoorthy, Additional SP Elangovanand officials from scan centres.
