TAKING STOCK: Detective Department DCP R.S. Praveen Kumar, (right) and Punjagutta Inspector M. Malla Reddy inspecting the flat at Padmaja Towers in Srinagar Colony where the burglary occurred took place on Thursday. HYDERABAD: Thieves made off with gold jewellery worth Rs. 24.5 lakh and Rs. 50,000 in cash after unscrewing the latch of a locked flat in Srinagar Colony under the Punjagutta police station limits on Thursday. Srinivas Raju, a doctor owning the apartment on the fourth floor of Padmaja Towers, went to his relative’s house along with his wife Lavanya to attend a function on Wednesday night. The couple stayed back there for the night and returned the next afternoon only to find latch of the main door removed. “The lock hung to the latch was made useless as the thieves unscrewed the latch and entered inside,” Punjagutta ACP Subbarami Reddy told reporters. The burglars ransacked the entire three bedroom flat and stumbled upon the key of a locked almirah left in a cupboard. They opened the almirah using the key and collected the jewellery and cash but did not touch any of the large number of silver articles kept inside. FingerprintsFour fingerprints were collected from the house but the police were yet to ascertain if they belonged to inmates of the house. Investigators grilled the doctor’s car driver but he could not give any leads. A private watchman aged about 50 years was on duty at the apartment building. But he claimed that he had not seen any suspicious characters moving around from Wednesday evening. The police have registered a case.
