Special Correspondent

chennai: Kancheepuram Collector Santhosh K. Misra on Thursday led a team of officials in conducting an inspection of the preparatory arrangements being taken for the three-day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas to be held from January 7 at the Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam.

President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Ministers of various States will be taking part in the event that is expected to be attended by a few thousand overseas Indians.

While Dr. Singh would inaugurate a convention on January 8, Ms. Patil would deliver the valedictory address the next day and give away Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards.

Mr. Misra said that he was working along with officials from the Revenue, Highways, Town Panchayat and other departments to ensure that the event was held without a glitch. Strengthening and improvement of roads in the vicinity of the Chennai Trade Centre and creation of adequate car parking facilities were among immediate priorities. The State Highways Department had already commenced widening of Mount - Poonamallee Road. The Collector and the rest of the officials visited IDPL Colony in Nandambakkam, behind the Trade Centre, for the car parking facilities and creation of access roads to it.
