Fishermen to be recruited as home guards

VISAKHAPATNAM: The city police will soon recruit some of the fishermen of Dibbapalem village as home guards. The move is not only intended to save people from drowning at sea but also provide livelihood to at least some of the displaced fishermen of Gangavaram.
Though they would be designated home guards, their services would be utilised in saving lives at various beaches in the city.
“To start with we will recruit about 10 fishermen within a week and subsequently some more would be recruited,” Police Commissioner N. Sambasiva Rao said.
He said that construction of the Marine Police Station building at Rushikonda was completed and it would soon be inaugurated.
