VISAKHAPATNAM: Mahila Chetana leader K. Padma and another woman A. Anjali were arrested on Thursday on the charge of wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation. According to the police, Ch. Appala Reddy and Surya Lakshmi performed the marriage of their son Kishore with Vijaya in 2004. There were some marital disputes between the couple. A week ago, Vijaya lodged a complaint at the P.M. Palem police station alleging harassment by her husband. The police counselled the couple and advised them to settle their dispute amicably. On November 18, Vijaya along with Padma, Anjali and some other leaders allegedly went to husband’s house and threatened her in-laws with dire consequences and threatened to sue them under the Dowry Act. They intimidated Appala Reddy and Surya Lakshmi when their son was not in the house, and confined them to the house illegally, according to Fourth Town Circle-Inspector Srinivasa Rao. On a complaint filed by Surya Lakshmi, the Fourth Town police registered a case and arrested Padma and Anjali and sent them for remand on Thursday.
