PES adopts eight government schools

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri has appealed to institutions running engineering and medical colleges to adopt schools run by the Government and the municipal corporations in their area to provide quality education.

He was speaking at a programme where the PES Institutions adopted eight government primary schools on Thursday.

Mr. Kageri said although Union and State governments had been spending a huge amount of money under the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan on education, there was dearth of quality education. Apart from providing infrastructure, teachers had to be trained to keep pace with present trends in education. “The Government will support those private institutions willing to adopt government schools,” he said.

Stressing the need to provide quality education to all, he said the priority of Education Department was to give quality education to children studying in government schools who needed it the most. “I have reviewed the status of government schools in 29 districts out of 33 districts. We have taken up reviewing the schools situation in Bangalore North and South DDPI areas. Plans will be chalked out to improve the quality of education.

“The responsibility lies on us to educate the children so that they do not deviate from the Indian culture,” he said.

Earlier, handing over the computers, library racks, desks and books to the adopted eight government primary schools, Founder-Chairman of PES Institutions M.R. Doreswamy said the group aimed at achieving cent per cent literacy in the these schools. “Apart from meeting the requirements of these schools, the PES was providing training to teachers,” he said.
