PSPB inter-unit golf from today

BANGALORE: GAIL will host the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board’s inter-unit golf championship at the Eagleton Golf Resort at Bidadi near here from Friday.

The three day event, which starts with a stableford contest, will feature some of the top amateur talent from PSPB units, which in the past have been employers of some of India’s biggest golfers including Jeev Milkha Singh, Shiv Kapur, Gaganjeet Bhullar and Ashok Kumar.

The inter-unit championship is basically a team event and each unit is allowed to field a team of three to five players and the top three scores decide the champion outfit.

Prizes for the highest individual gross, nearest to pin, longest drive and best lady golfer will also be given.

Besides, a senior handicap team event will also be conducted for the top executives of the companies with a maximum handicap of 24.

Poojitha bags double

N. Poojitha claimed a double, winning both the women’s singles and youth girls’ singles titles in the State table tennis championship which concluded at Malleswaram Association hall here on Thursday.

In the women’s final, Poojitha defeated N. Nisaraga 11-9, 11-4, 9-11, 9-11, 11-9, 12-10 and in an encore in the Youth girls final, she again accounted for Nisarga at 11-7, 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9.

Samson Selvakumar won the men’s singles title beating Anirban Tarafdar 11-6, 11-9, 11-9, 4-11, 10-12, 12-10.

C.P. Karthik emerged as youth boys’ champion with a 11-6, 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8 win over A.R. Navneeth.

Easy for Coorg HA

Coorg Hockey Association began its State ‘B’ division hockey league with a facile 3-0 win over AGORC at the KSHA Stadium here on Thursday.

Deepak, Vipin Somanna and Bopanna were the scorers.
