Formidables in lead

Kanpur: Winner of the board-a-match (BAM) event in the bridge National of 2002, 2003 and 2006, Formidables is leading a field of 21 finalists at the end of the second session of the same event for the Mohan Sicka Trophy in the Golden Jubilee National being played here.

Starting of with a fine score of 78 Match Points in the first session, Formidables had a good score of 74 in the second. Its carryover of eight Match Points gave it the top position with a tally of 160 Match Points at the end of the second session.

Breathing down its neck is arch rival Indian Railways which recovered from a below moderate first session score of 66 Match Points, by scoring an excellent 80 in the next session and along with its carryover of nine, was in second position with a tally of 155 MPs. Winners of the other events: Lohia individual event: G.P. Gupta. B.M. Prahaladka pairs event: D. Bhadra - A. Bhattacharya. Non-masters categorised pairs event: B.N. Batra - R.S. Mishra. Masters consolation event: B. Prasad - T.P. Khare.
