Nagercoil: Necessary steps will be taken to set up an auyrveda college at Kanyakumari soon in order to benefit the younger generation to know about the traditional values of herbal medicines, said the Tourism Minister, N. Suresh Rajan.

Inaugurating the 55th All India Cooperative Week celebrations – 2008 at Nagaraja temple auditorium here on Wednesday, the Minister said that the Government has allotted a sum of Rs.30 lakh to set up a ‘sizing’ unit in the district to impart training to the weaving community.

The Government had been implementing various welfare and development schemes for the benefit of the poor and down-trodden. Steps have already been taken to implement various pending schemes in the State.

The Government was exploring the ways and means to implement a pension scheme for the employees of fair price shops. Part-time fair price shops have already been opened in different parts of the State, so that villagers could get essential commodities at their doorsteps.

As demanded by the people, a Siddha college would be set up in the district as it was bestowed with traditional ‘vaidyars and asans’.
