Two children reported missing were murdered

Special Correspondent

THANJAVAUR: A case of two children missing from Sundar Nagar Extension on Medical College Road here has turned out to be a case of murder.

A police team arrested Revathi, mother of Vignesh (8) and Dinesh (6), and her paramour Chandrasekar alias Gunasekaran of Thuraiyur for murdering the children.

Addressing presspersons on Thursday, Balasubramanian, Additional Superintendent of Police, and S. Ilambaruthi, Deputy Superintendent of police, said Revathi lodged a complaint with the Medical College police on November 12 that Vignesh and Dinesh had gone missing since 7 p.m. on November 11. She suspected the hand of Saravanan of Thulajapuram Colony, with whom she had an illicit affair.

The police interrogated Saravanan, but found that they were misled by Revathi. In the meantime, the body of Vignesh was found floating in a river at Idayakadu near Pattukottai. Further investigation revealed that Revathi had an illicit relationship with Chandrasekar, and they decided to get rid of the children, born to Murugesan, her husband living in Malaysia.

Using a cell phone, Revathi asked Chandrasekar to come down to a pumphouse near her home on November 11 and handed over the children to him after they returned from school. He took them in a motorcycle and drowned them in the Grand Anicut Canal at Kandithampattu.

The police seized the cell phone , the motor cycle and the gold chain Chandrasekar had taken from Vignesh. The two were remanded to custody for 15 days.
