Financial fraud case: doctor surrenders

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: Medical practitioner Remani Krishnan, wanted by the Crime Branch CID in connection with investigations pertaining to the financial fraud case involving Sabarinath, surrendered before Harshitha Attaluri, Crime Branch Superintendent of Police, on Thursday evening.

Dr. Remani had earlier moved the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail in the case. In its November 14 verdict, the Supreme Court while denying anticipatory bail to her also directed the Crime Branch not to arrest her for six weeks.

Apex court order

At the same time, she was directed by the court to surrender before the investigating officers within seven days from the pronouncement of the order and cooperate with the investigations.

The seven-day deadline ends on Friday.

Dr. Remani earlier in the day appeared before the Crime Branch office at Thiruvananthapuram to surrender. But the Thiruvananthapuram Crime Branch office directed Dr. Remani to surrender before the Kollam Crime Branch office.

Following the directive, she surrendered before the Kollam Crime Branch Superintendent of Police at 4.45 p.m. Her lawyer accompanied her.

Interrogated

She was interrogated by Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police D. Rajagopal for about two hours.

She was later told to appear before Crime Branch Dy.SP P. Reghu in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.

Crime Branch officers here later told presspersons that statements on cash dealings given by Sabarinath, the prime accused in the case, did not tally with the statements given by Dr. Remani.

She told the investigating officers that one of her patients had introduced her to Sabarinath..
