Panakkad LP school launches unique student profile scheme

MALAPPURAM: The parent-teacher association (PTA) of CKMM ALP School at Panakkad, near here, has launched a project to exclusively profile the students in the light of their family and social background. A 16-page questionnaire booklet meant to help the parents and teachers profile the students was released on Thursday.

The booklet, titled Students Profile, seeks to elicit a whole lot of information about the students and their family background, paving way for a psychological approach to understand and channelise the talents of the students better.

Inaugurating the project, District Panchayat President Arimbra Mohammed said that it was the first such attempt by a primary school in the State to initiate a paradigm shift in the society’s approach to children’s education.

M.S. Mohanan, district project officer of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, received the first copy of the booklet from the District Panchayat President. PTA president Thayyil Abdullah presided over the function. School headmistress Nabeesa Parayil welcomed the gathering.

The school’s PTA ventured on profiling the students as part of its move to set up a reference record for psychological approach to classroom studies. According to PTA office-bearers, the Students Profile will further help the families build stronger ties with the schools, where the children spend much of their time.

The questionnaire seeks to elicit information on various aspects of the children from their birth to the present, including their family setup, idiosyncrasies and habits of their parents, health preferences, and emotional strengths and weaknesses.

“This profile project will turn the parent into a counsellor in the family,” said Anil Kurupan, coordinator of the project.

“With the help of this comprehensive profile, any parent can monitor their children with the skill and expertise of a professional,” he said.

Filling out the profile will be completed only after scrutiny by the class teacher. Teachers will help the parents to fill out the profile, but strict confidentiality will be maintained, said Mr. Kurupan.
