BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to restore peace and communal harmony in the religious strife torn Kandhamal region, the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC-MACAY) organised a series of cultural events in the district recently. Chairman of the city-based HDF School of Management, Dhanada Mishra told The Hindu that the institute has opened a chapter of the SPIC-MACAY that took the initiative in presenting the Rajasthani Langa-Mangeniars cultural troupe in places like G. Udaygiri, Raikia and Phulbani. Thousands thronged to watch the events, he added. The Langa-Mangeniars hail from the Barmer district of Rajasthan on the border of India and Pakistan, elaborated Mishra. They bring glimpses of the beautiful Rajasthani folk traditions dating back to centuries, he added. Cultural integrationTheir songs are being traditionally performed by the Muslim musicians while performances take place in front of the Hindu households of the Rajputs symbolising the religious and communal harmony that flourished in India. Their compositions include Sufi bhajans and songs used on occasions of birth and wedding, it was learnt. Student audienceThe troupe also performed at the HDF School of Management that was attended by hundreds of students, informed Mishra.
