Nadavidyalaya to present an evening of Bharatanatyam

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: Look out for “Nrityopasana”, an evening of dance featuring Bharatanatyam, to be performed in the city on Sunday at Jaganmohan Palace auditorium at 5.30 p.m. The programme is a presentation by Nadavidyalaya Academy of Music and Dance, in collaboration with the Department of Kannada and Culture. In all, 90 students of Nadavidyalaya will present a Bharatanatyam feature. Vidhush Mithra Naveen, an accomplished danseuse and teacher at the academy will accompany her students.

Incidentally, Nadavidyalaya has been hailed as a unique cultural academy in view of its promotion of a range of Indian fine arts, including Bharatanatyam, incorporation of folk styles, folk music, rendering Indian mythology through Carnatic vocals, Bhavageethe and yoga.

The institution, which teaches Pandanallur style of Bharatanatyam, is also the area where concerts, workshops, lecture demonstrations and projects are held. But the academy is not merely rooted to things cultural. Its students have displayed great social responsibility and 50 of them have voluntarily signed up for eye donation and two others have signed up for body donation with JSS Hospital. An institution that blends classical with the social, one can say.
