CFA leagues from Nov. 23

Chennai: The Chennai Football Association’s senior division and first division leagues will commence on November 23 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Both divisions will consist of 12 teams each. This was announced at a press conference here on Tuesday by B. Ravikumar David, CFA President.

Among the top contenders for this season’s senior division are defending champion Indian Bank and last season’s runner-up ICF.

Interest in this year’s senior division is heightened by the presence of players from other states, like Kerala, Manipur, Mizoram and West Bengal, as well as six players from Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast.

For the first time, this season’s senior division will have a title sponsor — St. Joseph’s College of Engineering.

Addressing the press conference, B. Babu Manoharan, Director, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, said he looked to carry the partnership forward into the future. “This isn’t a one-time affair,” he said. — Sports Reporter
