HYDERABAD: The government has failed in protecting Wakf properties in the State and precious pieces of land are lost in the process, former Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu said here on Wednesday.

Addressing a ‘Save Wakf Lands’ rally organised by the CPI(M) at Guttala Begumpet, Mr. Naidu assured all support in efforts to save these properties. Irrespective of their affiliations, all political parties should rally around for the cause, he said.

It was during his tenure, orders were issued on Guttala Begumpet Idgah and measures were initiated to protect it.

Rajya Sabha member P. Madhu alleged that the government has failed to save Wakf properties and even graveyards were being encroached.

The government is acting in an irresponsible manner and acres of such properties are being handed over to companies, he alleged.

In his address, MBT leader Khayyam Khan wanted a compound wall to be built to protect Guttala Begumpet property.

Siasat Editor-in-Chief Zahid Ali Khan said the government has no right to sell Wakf land and appealed to all to unite in preventing such a move. The leaders of TDP, TRS and others also participated in the meeting.
