Suicide threat at Collectorate: one arrested
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: The Saifabad police on Wednesday arrested a middle-aged man, Shankar, who allegedly threatened to commit suicide by jumping from the Ranga Reddy district Collectorate building at Lakdi-ka-pul.
A case under Section 309 (attempting suicide) of Indian Penal Code was registered against him.
The government built houses for the poor in Anjaiahnagar at Gachibowli 25 years ago.
As the area was sparsely populated, not many of the families, which were originally allotted the houses, occupied them.
Shankar took possession of one house and was living in it with his family.
Evacuated
Recently, original owners of the houses moved the High Court and got Shankar and others, who took possession of houses in the colony, evacuated. Since then, Shankar and other locals had been agitating demanding the government to provide houses to them.
Around Wednesday noon, Shankar went up the collectorate building and threatened to jump down if his demand was not complied with. Policemen brought him down and took him into custody.
