Hyderabad
Details also available on toll free number 1100 Drive in December to distribute backlog EPICs HYDERABAD: With a slew of innovative measures initiated by the Election Commission in the voter registration process, a voter hereafter can register his/her name anytime throughout the year. Voter registration has been demystified, made citizen-friendly by ensuring easy online access to all voters in the State and made a continuous process to enable people exercise their franchise, Chief Electoral Officer I.V.Subba Rao told this correspondent. The updated online electoral data base would even furnish information about a voter’s constituency and polling station if one just types his/her name and address. Alternately, one can also seek information through a toll free number 1100. Dr. Subba Rao said that the online voter registration process through the website www.ceoandhra.nic.in was refined during the last four to five months to make it user friendly and a ‘one stop site’ for registration, correction of errors, deletion, change in address, even uploading of photographs from the comfort of one’s home. In addition, the citizens of Greater Hyderabad could enrol themselves as voters in the nearest post office or even drop their form 6 for in the drop boxes provided in shopping malls, banks and petrol bunks. “We want that no citizen has a complaint in the next election that he could not vote due to lack of access or information. So far, 14,000 citizens registered themselves as voters online while 7,000 in city used drop boxes,” he added. No bar on votersThough November 25 has been set as the cut-off date to register the name for inclusion in the draft roll to be published on December 3, it will not bar a voter to register at a later date. However, these voters would find their names only in the supplementary list brought out from time to time. Meanwhile, the State Election Commission plans a drive in December to distribute the backlog Electoral Photo Identity Cards. Even without the card, one could vote by producing an alternative identity card such as passport, ration card or driving licence, he said.
