Police bust drug racket, arrest two

10 kg of opium seized from the accused

Bangalore: The Women and Narcotics Squad of Central Crime Branch (CCB) has busted an inter-State drug trafficking racket by arresting two men here on Tuesday. Officials of the squad have seized 10 kg of opium from the accused.

The accused are Anil Choudhary (35), who hails from Binjavadi village of Jodhpur in Rajasthan and Govindaram (23), a resident of Cubbonpet near Ulsoorgate.

The police said the two were involved in drug peddling for three years.

On a tip-off, the CCB team arrested Govindaram on R.T. Street in Cubbonpet on Tuesday and recovered around 3.05 kg of opium.

Based on his revelations the police raided a rented house at Kogilu near Yelahanka and recovered 7 kg of opium from his house, and arrested Anil.

Anil, the suspected kingpin in this racket, had allegedly brought the narcotics from Sohan Lal, Mohan Lal and Bharat in Hyderabad.

He had several sub-agents and with their help, he had sold around 30 kg of opium in the past three years. Anil was planning to sell opium to students and young professionals in the city, especially those from North India, said a senior officer of CCB.

According to the officer, the accused used trains for illegal transportation of opium and other contraband drugs.

The police are on the lookout for Sohan Lal, Mohan Lal and Bharat and also for other local drug peddlers.

The police officer estimated the seized narcotics at Rs. 85 lakh in international market and said that this was the biggest haul by the city police in recent days.

A case had been registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 (NDPS).

Pistol recovered

Officials of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) have recovered a pistol and a live bullet from K. Nagendra (32), who has criminal antecedents and who was staying at HMT Quarters near Jalahalli, on Tuesday.

During the course of investigation, the accused had revealed that he had obtained the weapon from another criminal antecedent Thimmenahalli Suri, who was recently murdered.

Suri was a native of Bijapur and it is alleged that he had sold both the weapon and bullets to Nagendra.

Cases of threatening, robbery and cheating among others have been registered against the accused in J.J. Nagar, Kengeri and Byatarayanapura police station, a CCB officer said.

House burgled

Gold ornaments and household articles estimated at Rs. 56,000 were seized from the house of a banana merchant in Yelahanka New Town on Tuesday.

M. Murthy, a resident of Yelahanka New Town 3rd stage, had lodged a complaint with the police and said that muggers had entered his house in EWS lane by breaking the doors, when he and his family members had gone out on some works.

The theft had occurred between 11.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m., said the Yelahanka New Town police.
