The objective of the technology is to enhance the health of the people, improve environmental sanitation conditions in poor urban communities and reuse treated water for non-potable purpose. The organisers said the purpose was to assist society and local government to mainstream community-based sanitation as a viable option in poor urban communities. Especially, the DEWATS technology can be an important contribution to the improvement of the living conditions in slums. It is implemented with the total participation of people and well-tested technology. This technology has been implemented at Roopanagar in Mysore.
