HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Wednesday ‘caught’ Katla Madhava Chary, technical officer/head draughtsman, office of Superintending Engineer, Nagarjunasagar Left Canal (Operations & Maintenance Circle), Miryalguda, Nalgonda district, after he allegedly accepted Rs. 6,000 as bribe from the complainant for doing an official favour.

A press release issued by ACB here, stated that he had demanded the bribe for processing a file pertaining to civil works to be undertaken by the complainant as chairman of the Water-users’ Association, Burugugadda. The officials seized the tainted currency notes from him. Investigation is on.

Convicted

The Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Hyderabad, convicted C. Hemachandra Murthy, former Assistant Director of Fisheries, Nalgonda district, and sentenced him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs. 2,000. Murthy was trapped by ACB on November 19, 2002, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from the president of Bollepally Fishermen’s Cooperative Society for admitting 25 members.
