Safe injection campaign in city

Bangalore: To create awareness about the dangers of unsafe injections and propagate the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Safe Injection Policy, SafePoint Trust, a U.K.-based charity organisation has launched a campaign in 14 cities of India, including Bangalore.
The rationale behind the campaign is to create awareness among people, especially children, about the dangers of unsafe injections. The campaign will be carried out through public awareness messages, films on television and in cinemas, radio spots and leaflets. Being supported by the former President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and former police official Kiran Bedi, the campaign has been launched in some hospitals of Bangalore, including Narayana Hrudayalaya.
Paul Mallins, a volunteer with SafePoint, told presspersons here on Tuesday that the basic idea was to educate people about the hazards of reusing injection syringes.
Extending their support to the cause, Vivek and Yogesh Kothari from Narayana Hrudayalaya called upon people to be aware of safe injection practices.
“Although most hospitals follow these norms, people should always insist on the use of fresh syringes,” Dr. Vivek added.
