46 students taken ill

Staff Reporter

TIRUPUR: Forty-six students of a panchayat union elementary school were admitted to the district headquarters hospital here on Wednesday afternoon with symptoms of food poisoning.

Hospital sources said the children grew tired and developed headache and nausea after they ate the egg distributed under the midday meal scheme. Later, they started vomiting. A team of doctors administered Intra Venous fluids to 14 children who were admitted as inpatients with extreme fatigue and weariness. The remaining 32 students were given anti-emetic drugs to control nausea and kept under observation at a special cell for three hours before being discharged.
