National Instruments opens training academy in Madurai

MADURAI: National Instruments, a global company making automated test equipment and virtual instrumentation software, has established its first training academy in the world, at the Thiagarajar College of Engineering here.

The Austin, Texas-headquartered company will impart software and hardware training to engineering students as well as the faculty at the National Instruments LabVIEW Academy, which was inaugurated on Wednesday. Other engineering colleges can also use the facility.

Ray Almgren, vice-president (product marketing and academic relations), National Instruments, who declared open the academy, said the laboratory was the first one to be started, on a pilot basis, by the $750-million company.

Karumuttu T. Kannan, vice-chairman and correspondent, TCE, along with faculty members, took part in the function.

“Our tools are used by scientists and engineers across the world. The popular tool, LabVIEW, will improve students’ understanding of the core subjects of science and engineering,” he said at a press conference held before the function.

The devices made by National Instruments, which has presence in 40 countries, are used in sectors such as energy, automobile, environment, chemicals and biomedical.

Mr. Almgren said LabVIEW was known for precise measurement system and it would be particularly helpful to students of mechanical and electrical and electronics branches.

Principal V. Abhaikumar said students could become more familiar with the tools of National Instruments through the academy. “Students will undergo training and get certificate after a test. It helps to enhance their employability.”
