Gas leak: 14 affected

Rourkela: As many as 14 employees including two senior officers of the captive power plant-I of the Rourkela Steel Plant fell ill due to leakage of gas inside the plant on Wednesday morning.

Plant sources said, the blast furnace gas from blast furnace No. 4 accidentally back fired due to chocking of water-seal valve in the gas pipeline.

An inquiry has been ordered by the plant authorities into the incident, sources said.

The employees who were on duty in CPC-2 were affected and 14 of them complained suffocation while 11 of them were shifted to Ispat General Hospital (IGH). The rest were treated inside the plant.

The employees admitted to the IGH included Senior Manager Biswajit Sahu and Deputy Manager K.L. Bhoi.

Hospital sources said all the admitted employees were out of danger. This was the third accident within a week, which claimed two lives in the plant. . - PTI
