Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: Collector R. Palanisamy has ordered the suspension of five employees for serious lapses in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme.

They either forged the muster rolls or drew excess wages on fictitious names in Irumbai and Rawuthankuppam panchayats in Vanur block.

Those placed under suspension are: overseer G. Gayathri, panchayat assistants Krishnamurthy and S. Arumugham, and, Makkal Nala Paniyalargal G. Sumathi and R. Dhanavanthan.

The Collector also directed the officials to initiate criminal proceedings against the panchayat presidents for tampering with the records. Action would also be taken against the Block Development Officer and the union engineers as provided under the Tamil Nadu Civil Services Act.
