Plea for day trains from Karaikudi

“Operate special buses for the benefit of commuters coming by trains in the early hours”
PUDUKOTTAI: The Pudukottai District Railway Users’ Committee has urged the Railway authorities to introduce day express train services between Karaikudi and Chennai and Karaikudi and Coimbatore via Pudukottai to benefit the commuters of the district.
A resolution adopted to this effect at its emergency meeting said that a large number of workers and members of the public would benefit, if the above trains were introduced.
Another resolution urged the Transport Minister K. N. Nehru and the General Manager of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to operate special town buses to cater to the needs of the passengers alighting from or boarding the newly-introduced Rameswaram-Chennai and the Chennai-Rameswaram trains.
The resolution said that these trains crossed Pudukottai railway stations in the wee hours, and the absence of adequate autorickshaws at the railway station posed a difficulty.
Pallavan Express from Pudukottai
The meeting, through a resolution, urged the Railway authorities to operate the Pallavan Superfast Express, at present running between Tiruchi and Chennai daily at 6.30 a.m., from Pudukottai.
The vice-president of the Committee, M. Rajendran; the Secretary, A.M. Syed Ibrahim Babu and the Treasurer S. Rajkumar were among those who spoke.
Protected drinking water sought
They underlined the need for providing protected drinking water at the railway station here.
