Carnatic music fete from November 28

The three-day event will feature major artistes from within and outside the country.


KOZHIKODE: The Chinmaya Sisters, Uma and Radhika, will launch the annual music programme of the Swati Music Dais in Kozhikode on November 28 with their Carnatic vocal concert.

The three-day fete which has featured major artists from within and outside the State every year will be inaugurated by K.G. Paulose, Vice-Chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam, at the Tali Jaya Auditorium.

Uma and Radhika will be accompanied by Manjoor Ranjith on the violin, Chertala Krishna Kumar on the mridangom and Manjoor Unnikrishnan on the ghatam.

Competition for junior artists in classical vocals, veena, violin, flute, and mridangom will be held in the morning on the second day of the festival.

Later in the evening, there will be a violin concert by Athira Krishna, winner of the President’s medal for child artists. She will be accompanied by P.V. Anil Kumar on the mridangom and Uduppi S. Sreekanth on the gangira.

On the final day, there will be a contest for artists in the 16 to 25 age group in rendering Swati Tirunal kritis. the winners will get cash prizes ranging from Rs.3,000 to Rs.1,000, besides certificates.

Additional Inspector General of Police (North) P.S. Jangpangi will be the chief guest at the valedictory session.

The TBM Nedungadi Memorial Scholarship will be presented at this function to P. Kanjana, a student of the MA Music course at Government College, Chittur.

The event will conclude with a vocal concert by the reputed duo Ganesh and Kumaresh. Kumaresh will be on the violin and Mysore N. Sudarsan on the mridamgom for the vocal concert by Ganesh.
