SRM qualifies for all-India finals

Chennai: SRM University qualified for the all-India finals of the inter-university volleyball tournament finishing runner-up in the South-West competition hosted by the Kannur University from November 10 to 18.

SRM fell 25-15, 25-17, 25-4 at the last hurdle against the host university.

The all-India finals will be held at Kannur from November 20 to 23.

The results: SRM bt SDAT, Mumbai 25-2, 25-3, 25-6; bt Shivaji, Kolhapur 25-13, 25-10, 25-9; bt Pondicherry 25-9, 25-10, 25-6; bt Mysore 25-18, 25-15, 25-7. Quarterfinal: SRM bt Calicut 25-15, 25-23, 25-14. Semifinal league: SRM bt Anna University 23-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-18, 15-13; bt Madras 25-23, 20-25, 25-17. Final: Kannur bt SRM 25-15, 25-17, 25-14.

Reuben and Mahesh scored twice each as Homely HC thumped Rajamanickam Memorial 6-0 in a CHA first division hockey match here on Monday.

The results: Star of Mackey 3 (U.G. Ram, R. Suresh, Deena Dayalan) bt Iqbal RC 1 (Rajasingam); Homely HC 6 (Reuben 2, Pradeep, Mahesh 2, Rajiv) bt Rajamanickam Memorial 0; Paramanu HC 2 (Karthick, M. Soori) bt AGORC 1 (Anbu).

Ravindra Babu’s 112 powered Fine Star to a 217-run win over Friends XI (Tambaram) in a Kancheepuram DCA first division league cricket match.

The scores:

First div.: Fine Star 280 for seven in 45 overs (Ravindra Babu 112) bt Friends XI (Tbm) 63 in 23 overs.

Second div.: Bharat 105 for eight in 25 overs lost to Venugopal Club 106 for one in 14.4 overs.

Syndicate Bank 67 for six in 20 overs lost to SRI (Tbm) 69 for four in 17.4 overs.

Mani Memorial 95 in 27.2 overs (Kalaimani four for 20) lost to Saralee 96 for five in 23.3 overs.

Central Bank of India 61 in 18.5 overs lost to Chromepet 62 for three in 10.5 overs.
