New York: Soft drink distributor Pepsi Bottling Group Inc on Wednesday said it would slash about 3,150 jobs across Europe and America as part of its restructuring plan. The restructuring plan is expected to result in pre-tax savings of up to $160 million upon completion, while it would lead to loss of 3,150 jobs across U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico, a company statement said. In the U.S. and Canada, the leading soft drink distributor firm would continue to focus on refining its selling and service organisation, reducing its general and administrative expenses and enhancing efficiency of supply chain. “About 750 jobs (in the U.S. and Canada) are expected to be impacted as the company implements these plans,” it said. The company would also take steps to streamline its organisation in Europe and the actions are expected to impact about 200 jobs across PBG’s European countries, it added. In Mexico, the company has completed its previously announced strategic review of business and this process has led to the implementation of a broad range of initiatives designed to improve the profitability of PBG Mexico. Pepsi Bottling Group also plans to close three plants and about 30 distribution centres, as well as eliminate about 700 routes over time. In total, these changes would impact about 2,200 jobs in Mexico, the statement said. — PTI
