“All decisions on Sri Lankan issue should be taken under the guidance of Karunanidhi” CHENNAI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi will submit alternative proposals to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on November 19 to resolve the Sri Lankan crisis, party founder S. Ramadoss said on Tuesday. Addressing a rally taken out by the student wing of the Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK), Dr. Ramadoss said he was collecting details of the proposals. Making it clear that all decisions on the issue should be taken under the guidance of Mr. Karunanidhi, Dr. Ramadoss disagreed with the hartal called by the CPI. “We thought the all-party meeting convened by the CPI would come out with some proposal for the consideration of the Chief Minister. But the party leadership unilaterally called for a hartal. A decision taken at a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister alone will benefit the Tamils. The CPI should reconsider its decision,” he said. (The CPI has decided to withdraw the call.) Echoing the views of Dr. Ramadoss, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said that though he respected the sentiments of the leaders who took part in the all-party meeting, a hartal would not be appropriate at this juncture. “All demands should be made through Mr. Karunanidhi. Dr. Ramadoss and other leaders can meet the Chief Minister and seek another all-party meeting,” he said. He suggested that leaders from Tamil Nadu visit Delhi and meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and AICC president Sonia Gandhi to express their views. Dravidar Kazhagam president K. Veeramani said there was no truth in the reports that the LTTE was retreating in the war against the Sri Lankan army. “They are hiding only to launch a massive attack.”
