Gold ornaments stolen

Two persons took away gold ornaments weighing 30 grams after diverting attention of a bangle store owner, M. Saraswati, 55, at Kushaiguda after approaching her claiming that they had mystical powers to double gold jewellery invoking the almighty. They asked her to keep the jewellery in a box, sprinkled turmeric powder on it, tied it with a knot and asked her to offer prayers by closing her eyes. The duo sped away on their bike as soon as she closed her eyes.

54 mobiles recovered

Mangalhat police on Tuesday recovered 54 mobile phones, several SIM cards and re-charge coupons, after arresting two persons –Mohd. Maqsood, 28, and Mohd Safeeq Ahmed, 21.

The arrested duo confessed to the police that they stole the phones and other material, all worth Rs. 1.5 lakh, after breaking into a shop a week ago, according to a press release.
